The current President of Ireland 77-year-old Michael Higgins, a member of the social democratic labour party, re-elected for a second term according to the results of the public vote, gaining 56% of votes, it follows from the results of the elections.

In second place with businessman Peter Casey (23,1%), the third — Sean Gallagher (6,4%), the fourth result is from a representative of the opposition party «Sinn FEIN» Liad Neither Riad (6.3% of the votes), the fifth and sixth place in the voting was a public figure Joan Freeman (6%) and Gavin Duffy (2,2%), respectively.

The President is elected for a period of seven years.
