The speaker of Parliament of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze congratulated the presidential candidate, ex-foreign Minister Salome Zurabishvili with the victory in the presidential election.

Presidential elections by direct vote were held in the country on Sunday, all polling stations closed at 20.00 local time (19.00 GMT).

Zurabishvili was supported by the ruling party «Georgian dream» wins the presidential elections with 52.3% of votes, according to the exit poll, conducted on behalf of the party. According to the survey, second place opposition candidate Grigol Vashadze with 28.1% of the vote.

«Congratulations Mrs. Salome with a confident victory in the presidential elections,» Kobakhidze said at the briefing.

The mayor of Tbilisi, the Secretary General of the party «Georgian dream» Kakha Kaladze also congratulated Zurabishvili with the victory. «With a big lead, Salome Zurabishvili. I congratulate her on the victory. However, you should wait for official data of the CEC,» — he told reporters.

Another exit poll, the opposition party «European Georgia», shows that in Georgia, one of the presidential candidates is gaining 50% plus one vote, and then held a second round of elections with the participation of the two most popular candidates – opposition leader Grigol Vashadze and independent candidate Salome Zurabishvili. According to the survey, Grigol Vashadze received 37% of votes, Salome Zurabishvili – 34%, and the candidate of the «European Georgia,» David Bakradze – 17%.
