The decision whether a bridge or tunnel is a railway transition from continent to Sakhalin it is planned to make in November 2019, reported Monday on the website of the government of Khabarovsk Krai.
Earlier it was reported that railway transport is planned to be built through the Nevelskoy Strait between Khabarovsk Krai and Sakhalin. Construction of the crossing is included in the comprehensive plan for the development of trunk infrastructure of the Russian Federation for the period up to 2024, but it is planned when additional financial provision, confirming the forecast of the cargo base and funding from extrabudgetary sources.
According to the government of the province, issues construction line «Selikhin — Nysh» discussed by the public Council under the Ministry of industry and transport of the region.
«To date, the analysis of the selected route railroad, conducted a detailed study of the area to ensure that there are no unexplored communications, and the interests of the population into careful consideration. The preliminary cost of the project is 540 billion, it is planned that construction will start in 2021,» reads the message.
Specifies that the line will pass through the territory of settlements of the Khabarovsk territory and Sakhalin region: the villages of Berry, Lazarev, Deflection, villages Tsimmermanovka, De-Kastri and Nysh. Its total length will be about 585 kilometers.
It is also reported that with the construction of the crossing will need to be adjusted the second stage of reconstruction of the Baikal-Amur mainline (BAM), the load will increase. It is also necessary to provide new rail line power supply. It’s possible to build high-voltage transmission lines with a Union of isolated energy systems of Sakhalin and the Nikolaevsk-on-Amur.

The project is a tunnel between Sakhalin and the mainland was conceived in the 50-ies of the last century, but then realize it did not happen. In 2007, the question of connecting the coast with a bridge or tunnel is raised again. In June 2018, Russian President Vladimir Putin noted the importance of transit for the residents of Sakhalin, and in September indicated that the implementation of the project significantly expands the potential of the ports of the island, but you need to understand the volume of traffic. Design decisions on the construction of the crossing to Sakhalin prepare the specialists of «Dalgiprotrans», in the summer they began work in Ulchi district of Khabarovsk Krai.
