Over the past 25 years have substantially reduced the number of Russians who strongly condemn all forms of anti-Semitism and xenophobia, said the Director of «Levada-center» Lev Gudkov at the conference in Moscow.

«Anti-Semitism, if you compare it with previous measurements, remains quite low level», — said the sociologist.

Thus, according to him, over the past 25 years there has been a «weakening of the immune system against xenophobia and anti-Semitism.»

«If in the middle of 90-ies against any of their manifestations were approximately half of the population, today the signs of rejection and condemnation of such manifestations we can detect only about 25-30% of the population,» — said Gudkov.

He also said that, according to a «Levada center» survey, «core xenophobes» is 8-15% of the adult population, «increasing to 20% in moments of acute social crisis and stress». «This kernel includes the whole complex of ethnic hatred. It combines and anti-Semitic, racist, and xenophobic views», — said the sociologist.

Opened in Moscow II Moscow international conference on anti-Semitism, racism and xenophobia, which gathered more than 600 experts from 37 countries. The event was organized by the Russian Jewish Congress.
