German Chancellor Angela Merkel believes that the departure from the post of Chairman of the party Christian democratic Union will not affect its position in international negotiations in the future.
«I think that nothing will change in the bargaining position in international negotiations. You could even say, I’ll have more time to concentrate on his duties as head of government,» said Merkel during a joint press conference with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. The broadcast was carried on the website of the office of the head of Germany.
Merkel also reiterated that he would not interfere in the «open process» of electing a new party Chairman.
Merkel, who heads the government of Germany since 2005, said Monday that she will not be eligible for the post of Chancellor in 2021. Also the head of the Christian democratic Union (CDU) does not intend to fight for a place in the Bundestag, and at the party Congress in December in Hamburg will not nominate his candidacy for the presidency of the CDU.
The decision of Merkel is due to a dramatic loss of votes for the CDU in elections in the Federal state of Hesse. According to preliminary data, the party Christian democratic Union won the election in Hesse 27% of the votes, the Social democratic party of Germany (SPD) was 19.8%, Green Was 19.8%, the «Alternative for Germany» — 13.1%, the Free democratic party (FDP) — 7,5%, «Left» and 6.3%.
