Pan-Orthodox councils should meet «not once in a hundred years, and regularly,» said Tuesday the Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill, replying to the questions of the participants of the VIII international festival of Orthodox media «Faith and word».

According to the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church, the subject he discussed with Patriarch Bartholomew during a meeting with him in Istanbul on August 31.

«I offered to hold either a Synaxis – that is, a collection of heads or Cathedral. When we discussed the topic of the Cretan Cathedral (held in 2016 – ed.), I reassured the Patriarch, who was very excited that a number of churches did not go to the Cathedral and I told him, well can’t the story end at the Cretan Cathedral, let’s build on the collegiate process. Well, not everyone could come, for objective reasons, and after serious reflection, the Cretan Cathedral — let’s continue», — said the Patriarch.

«It is necessary that the Cathedrals we have met not once in a hundred years, but that they were going regularly, and then we could do the conciliar mind to discuss the problems that arise», — he added.

According to the head of the ROC, the pan-Orthodox Council could discuss the situation around the Church in Ukraine. Also it should be collected «in connection with the canonical crime of the Patriarch of Constantinople».

«The Patriarch of Constantinople, breaking all the rules that exist and govern this kind of relationship between churches, invades our land, our Church declares its some kind of superior right to invade, having no Foundation in the sacred canons – this innovation of the last decades», — said the Patriarch.

Speaking about the prospects of convening a pan-Orthodox Council or Synaxis (Assembly) of the primates, he noted that «many churches today claim the need for Cathedral», however, the Patriarch Bartholomew is not yet expressed a desire to convene such a discussion.

Because of the decision of Constantinople to begin providing non-canonical autocephaly churches in Ukraine, which the Russian Orthodox Church is called the schism, the Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church on 15 October announced the severance of communication with the Patriarchate of Constantinople on the canonical territory of the ROC, including Ukraine and Belarus. The Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church has called canonically void, and saw politics in the abolition of Constantinople by the act of 1686 on the transfer of the Kyiv Metropolitanate to the jurisdiction of the Moscow Patriarchate. Metropolitan Hilarion said that Constantinople lost its right to be called the coordinating centre of Orthodoxy. In the Russian Orthodox Church hope that Constantinople will change the decision to give the autocephaly of the Ukrainian Church, and before that he will be in schism.

The Eucharistic communion makes it impossible for all of the clergy of the Russian Orthodox Church to serve together with the hierarchs and clergy of the Church of Constantinople, and for the laity – participate in the ordinances performed in her temples.
