The Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill at the meeting with participants of the VIII international media forum «Faith and word» warned Orthodox journalists from participation in the information wars and reminded that their main goal is not to win over the opponent, and Christian testimony.

«Members of information warfare is always his goal to have the victory over the opponent. These information wars is filled with modern media space. And what means for us this space? For us it is primarily a space for testimony. If we do not bear witness to the Christian truth, in this space and do not have to go,» said the Patriarch.

«You should carry this energy charge, to convey the testimony of Christ, about the Church and about salvation, but not by the words of the Church’s preaching, and is inherent in modern journalism, words, thoughts, and categories,» he added.

The Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church also recalled the responsibility of the information Ministry and called on the Russian journalists not to chase ratings.

«If you take the liberty and responsibility to represent the Church before God, if you realize that your main business is a testimony of Christian truth, in accordance with this need to line up and tactics of your work. The ability to distinguish the truth from the fact that just like her, the courage to spread the truth, not a lie, designed for high ratings and likes is to distinguish the professional», — said the Patriarch.

According to him, the Orthodox media are under the same pressure of market forces, which requires more views and «likes», as well as other media. The task of Orthodox journalists — to be able to work in such conditions without getting up at the same time on a dangerous path of seeking popularity at any cost, said the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church.

«We need to remember also that today we do not live in an indifferent us media. A huge amount of information is directed on discredit of the Church, undermining its credibility. Attempts to undermine the authority of the Church, its Ministers, often through outright lies or biased interpretation of the facts. <…> No one should think that the struggle that takes place around the Church for the souls, as Church journalists. Relates primarily to you. Because your word is often more widespread than the word of the Bishop or priest», — concluded the Patriarch.
