Europe as a response to a possible U.S. withdrawal from the INF Treaty should make efforts to conclude a new international Treaty on the prohibition of all types of cruise missiles with the possibility of nuclear equipment, said to RIA Novosti, an expert research group on peace and security GRIP, Jean-Marie Collin.

Earlier, U.S. President Donald trump said that the US does not intend more than to adhere to the Treaty on intermediate and shorter-range missiles, as Moscow, according to the American side, it «breaks», and come out of it. The possibility of the development of events according to such scenario has caused concern in Europe.

«Now for the European States to open two ways. The first is to resist the process and to begin to develop a common policy of nuclear deterrence, perhaps on the basis of the nuclear Arsenal of France, and thereby further weaken global security,» — said the expert, analyzing the possible situation in case of US withdrawal from the INF Treaty.

«Either there is a way to strengthen European security, and therefore international, supporting the initiative at the UN in 2016, Switzerland and Sweden on the prohibition of all categories of cruise missiles with nuclear capability, that is, and the Russian missiles, which the US, as they say, out of the Treaty,» he said.

«The future Treaty could be aimed at nuclear-weapon States — the USA, China, France, India, and Russia, which possess such capabilities. In addition, it would be advisable that European States also reaffirmed their readiness to support the Treaty for the prohibition of nuclear weapons,» the analyst believes.

According to him, hundreds of millions of Europeans can now be at risk, «as in the early 1980-ies, to see more nuclear missiles aimed at their cities.»

«It should be emphasized that the risk of re-appears at the very moment when all States possessing nuclear weapons, have already started the process of modernizing and upgrading their nuclear arsenals», he warned.

Press Secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov said that Moscow wants to obtain a more detailed explanation from the United States, and added that the scrapping of the provisions of the INF Treaty would force Russia to take measures to ensure their safety. The Russian foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that any action in this field will meet.

In recent years Moscow and Washington have regularly accused each other of violating the INF Treaty. Russia has repeatedly stated that strictly complies with its obligations under the contract. Lavrov noted that Moscow has very serious questions to the US regarding the performance of the contract by the Americans themselves. In particular, in Moscow indicate that the United States placed on land at a military base in Romania, and in Poland — a facility capable of launching a shock cruise missiles of type «Tomahawk», which is prohibited by the Treaty. The Russian side also drew attention to the fact that the United States develop unmanned fighting vehicles, funding research on creation of cruise missiles, land-based.
