Prosecutor General Yuri Chaika has ordered to strengthen prosecutorial supervision of the investigation and inquests across the country to «improve the state of law» in this area, said the official representative of Department Alexander Kurennoy.
«Prosecutor General Yuri Chaika has issued a notice on strengthening prosecutorial supervision of procedural activities of bodies of preliminary investigation and inquiry», he said during the broadcast of a new video service of the Supervisory authority «Ether».
According to him, «there are specific measures» to improve the state of legality in the exercise of criminal prosecution in these phases. Details are not specified.
The Prosecutor General’s office has repeatedly criticized the state of preliminary investigation and inquiry in Russia. In particular, in February Chaika said that, in his opinion, the work of Russian investigators in the last two decades have witnessed a degradation.
President Vladimir Putin has previously instructed the Prosecutor General «to significantly strengthen the supervision of the investigation… on all levels.»
