The Chairman of the Eastern Committee of German economy Wolfgang Buchele expects that the project «Northern stream — 2» will be implemented in full.

«The main problems we see now in the project financing… We hope that, despite all the problems, the project «Northern stream — 2″, which is now under construction, will be implemented in full and in accordance with the lines,» said Buchele, speaking at a meeting of representatives of business circles of Germany with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Nord stream is important, since Germany’s going to refuse from using nuclear energy, using electricity from coal and we need additional natural gas that comes through Ukraine, to implement our climate objectives and to ensure that Europe is competitive clean fuel,» he added.

The project «Northern stream — 2» involves the construction of two pipelines with a total capacity of 55 billion cubic meters of gas off the coast of Russia through the Baltic sea to Germany. The new pipeline is planned to be build next to the existing «Northern stream». It will pass through the territorial sea or the exclusive economic zone of the countries located along the shores of the Baltic sea — Russia, Finland, Sweden, Denmark and Germany. Construction completion is scheduled for late 2019.
