Bilateral trade between Russia and Cuba for 2017 increased by 17%, is developing concrete measures to increase trade between the two countries, said President of Russia Vladimir Putin during a meeting with the head of Cuba Miguel Diaz-Kanalen with Them.

«I note that by the end of 2017, bilateral trade increased by 17%. Of course, in absolute numbers this is still modest rates of turnover, but we know what to do in the future. Therefore, together with Mr. díaz-Kanalen instructed the intergovernmental Commission, which held another meeting this week in Havana, to develop specific measures to increase commodity flows, expand investment cooperation,» Putin said.

The Russian President also noted that Russia and Cuba have a positive experience of cooperation in the energy sphere. According to him, «deliveries of Russian oil and petroleum products make a significant contribution to resource provision of the Cuban economy and guarantee its energy security». Putin also added that Russian energy companies are successfully operating in Cuba.

The Cuban leader is in Russia on an official visit at the invitation of the President of the Russian Federation. Diaz-Kanel ‘ has arrived in Russia on Thursday. Following the talks in Moscow the leaders of Russia and Cuba signed a joint statement «on common positions in international Affairs». The official visit will last till November 3 on Saturday, will hold talks with Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.
