Russia needs to find mechanisms to continue cooperation with Iran, against whom on Monday of new sanctions from the United States, said Russian energy Minister Alexander Novak in an interview with the Financial Times (FT).

«We believe that we should seek mechanisms that would allow us to continue to develop cooperation with our partners, with Iran,» — said Novak.

According to him, the mechanism of «oil in exchange for goods» that are created to increase trade turnover between Russia and Iran allows Tehran to use some oil revenues to pay for Russian goods.

«We have a historic trade with Iran. Iran needs our technology and services,» said Novak, adding that Russia is already helping Iran to build thermal power plants, Railways, and also supplies its high-tech equipment and agricultural products.

«We already live under sanctions,» — said Novak. «As for Russia, we do not recognize sanctions imposed unilaterally, without a UN security Council resolution. We believe these methods are, in fact, illegal,» — concluded the Minister.

The President of the United States Donald trump announced in may that Washington comes from the agreement on the nuclear program with Iran. He also reported the return of all sanctions against Iran including secondary, that is, against other countries doing business with Iran. Washington has also said it aims to bring Iranian oil exports down to zero and urged its customers to abandon such purchases. Once again, the U.S. has enacted on August 7 some of the sanctions against Iran, and on Monday it is expected a new «tranche» of anti-Iranian restrictions from the American side.
