Ukrainian expert in the field of energy Dmitry marunich believes that the so-called «plan B» Naftogaz in connection with the construction bypassing Ukraine gas pipeline «Nord stream-2» is in litigation with Gazprom.

Previously CEO of the Ukrainian company Yuriy Vitrenko, the TV channel ZIK said that Naftogaz of Ukraine began to implement «plan B» in connection with the construction of «Nord stream-2». According to Vitrenko, «Nord stream-2» will be built, despite the attempts of Ukraine to stop its construction, as the German government and business support project. There is a possibility that the transit of gas through Ukraine at this scenario to a complete stop, recognized top Manager.

«This «Plan B», if it can be called that, is simply to appeal to the Stockholm arbitration with the requirement to recover from Gazprom some $ 12 billion of lost revenue for transit. How successful will this trial after the arbitration has reached a verdict in respect of a transit dispute, it is difficult to say,» said Marunich RIA Novosti.

According to him, the transit contract is terminated and will expire by the time when the «Nord stream-2» will be built. «So this plan is a great name, actually it’s just an attempt to sue Gazprom on. Instead of somehow realistic to prepare a plan for the expected fall in transit, and this should be a «Plan B» Naftogaz deals with propaganda and tries again to sue Gazprom», — the expert believes.

The project «Northern stream-2» involves the construction of two pipelines with a total capacity of 55 billion cubic meters of gas off the coast of Russia through the Baltic sea to Germany. The new pipeline is planned to be build next to the existing «Northern stream». Gazprom has repeatedly talked about the readiness to save the transit of gas through Ukraine after 2019, if Kiev will prove the economic viability of the contract. The possible volumes the head of Gazprom was estimated at 10-15 billion cubic meters per year.

In Kiev has repeatedly stated that we want to remain a transit country for Russian gas to Europe. The current contract for the transit of Russian gas via Ukraine expires at the end of 2019. In this regard, Ukraine is categorically against the construction of new gas pipelines bypassing its territory. Ukraine stopped buying gas from the Russian Federation in November 2015, and in 2016-2017 did not use Russian fuel in preparation for the heating season by pumping into storage gas purchased on the reverse in Europe. Trilateral negotiations on gas transit between Russia, the European Commission and Ukraine took place on 17 July in Berlin for the first time after the decision of the Stockholm arbitration on the dispute between Gazprom and Naftogaz on a contract for the supply and transit of gas.
