Most countries will not reduce oil imports from Iran to zero, as insisted by the Americans in connection with the restoration of all sanctions against Tehran, said in an interview with RIA Novosti former aide to President Barack Obama on the Middle East Robert Malley.

«It’s impossible. And I think the administration is already preparing itself to grant exceptions to the sanctions, until there is a downward trend (oil imports — ed.). Countries such as India will reduce the import to zero, China is not exactly cut, Japan and South Korea…it could have a big impact on their economy,» he said.

Mally confident that «this will have a big impact on the price of oil, even if Saudi Arabia tries to compensate for this to some degree.»

Speaking about who the United States can provide exceptions to the sanctions, he called India, Turkey, China.

«I’m not involved in these conversations, but I think this applies to most countries that say they will not be able to reduce imports to zero. I know what India said about this. It is simply impossible. Some of their refining stations built only for processing Iranian oil. This is the cheapest oil they can get. Are the United States or other countries to compensate for this, and what will they do with those processing stations, intended only for Iranian oil?» — added a former senior representative of the American administration, and now President of the «International crisis group».

Earlier, Secretary of state Mike Pompeo said that the United States will make an exception to the sanctions for the eight countries that import oil from Iran.

Iran and «six» of international mediators (Russia, USA, Britain, China, France, Germany) July 14, 2015 reaching an agreement on the settlement of the longstanding problem of the Iranian atom: adopted a Joint comprehensive plan of action (SVPD), which was removed from Iran’s previously imposed economic and financial sanctions by the UN security Council, US and EU.

The President of the United States Donald trump announced in may that Washington is out of agreement with Iran on its nuclear program. Trump also announced the restoration of all sanctions against Iran including secondary, that is, against other countries doing business with Iran. Other members of the six opposed this step of the United States. The remaining nuclear deal the state develop measures that will protect the companies from us sanctions for cooperating with Iran.

Once again, the U.S. has enacted on August 7 some of the sanctions against Iran. More substantial sanctions, which will cover the export of petroleum products will come into force on 5 November. The EU does not recognize the re-introduction of US sanctions and does not allow European companies to run them, however, companies in the EU is still the de facto curtail business with Iran, fearing American secondary sanctions.
