Created in Ukraine on the initiative of the authorities of the Patriarchate of Constantinople and new «Autocephalous» Church structure will be divisive and nothing can give legitimacy in the Orthodox world, said Tuesday in an interview with RIA Novosti Chairman of the Department for external Church relations (DECR) of the Moscow Patriarchate Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk.

«Constantinople declared the decision to advance the project of creation of the «Autocephalous» Church structures in our territory parallel to and against the canonical Church, for centuries the carrier service on the Ukrainian land and all the trials and joys of remaining with his people – obviously uncanonical act,» said Metropolitan Hilarion.

According to him, whatever the procedure for implementing this decision, they will not be able to give him legitimacy.

«Not repent of their deeds dissenters, even if taken in communication with Constantinople, are schismatics, and the structure into which they enter, will also be divisive,» said the head of the DECR, adding that the split in Ukraine «threatens to go deep crack throughout the body of world Orthodoxy.»

The Agency also recognized that the actions of Constantinople certainly will have a negative impact on that certificate, which is intended to carry all Orthodox Christians around the world.

«Modern society is rapidly dechristianized. It calls into question the stable as it seemed before, the establishment, as the family, morality, the traditional way of life. In the middle East Christians are undergoing persecution, and in Western culture, formed, it would seem that within the Christian civilization, believers in Christ are frequently subjected to restrictions and harassment. All this requires from us a common response, shared evidence, which is undermined by the actions of Constantinople, destroying Orthodox unity,» said the Metropolitan.

Because of the decision of Constantinople to begin providing non-canonical autocephaly churches in Ukraine, which the Russian Orthodox Church is called the schism, the Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church on 15 October announced the severance of communication with the Patriarchate of Constantinople on the canonical territory of the ROC, including Ukraine and Belarus.

The Synod called canonically void, and saw politics in the abolition of Constantinople by the act of 1686 on the transfer of the Kyiv Metropolitanate to the jurisdiction of the Moscow Patriarchate. Metropolitan Hilarion said earlier that Constantinople lost its right to be called the coordinating centre of Orthodoxy. In the Russian Orthodox Church hope that Constantinople will change the decision to give the autocephaly of the Ukrainian Church, and before that he will be in schism.
