The cause of tension in relations between the West and Russia is the desire of the West to preserve global leadership at any cost, said the Russian foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

«The main reason is the desire of some Western States to keep the leading position in the international arena, to continue to impose on everyone everywhere their will and values to solve its own selfish problems at the expense of other members of the international community,» Lavrov said in an interview with Spanish newspaper «El Pais».

«In an independent foreign policy, our independent positions on key issues seen as a threat to the us, in General, the Western global domination. In this regard, we vigorously against imposing unilateral economic sanctions and other instruments of deterrence – by increasing military activity near our borders to an unprecedented scale anti-Russian information campaign,» the Minister added.
