Press Secretary of Russian President Dmitry Peskov did not comment the statement of Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko that he sees no need for the presence in Belarus of foreign military bases, including Russian.

Earlier, Lukashenko said that the issue of deployment of Russian military base on the territory of Belarus — an artificial problem. He noted that Belarus is «in the military-political Union with Russia», and in the placement on the territory of the Russian military base is not necessary, because Belarus itself «will provide those features» that are assigned to it.

«I leave without comments completely this phrase. You know that we have a Federal government, you know that we are members of the CSTO and other associations joint, and the Eurasian economic community, therefore Belarus — our closest partner in terms of trade and economic cooperation, and in terms of security issues is a strategic line», — said Peskov told reporters.

«I just don’t know what context this phrase. Probably, but since I don’t know, I would not want to read tea leaves,» — said Peskov, commenting on the clarification that the statement of the Belarusian President can be connected with plans for the creation in Poland of an American military base.
