The use of the Northern sea route without icebreakers is unlikely in the next Millennium, said the chief researcher of the laboratory of geodynamics and paleomagnetism, Institute of petroleum Geology and Geophysics Siberian branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences Dmitry Metelkin.

«The existing forecasts catastrophically rapid reduction of sea ice in the Arctic, in my opinion, greatly exaggerated. And the use of the Northern sea route without icebreaker fleet is unlikely to be possible in the next few thousand years,» said Metelkin in the press center MIA «Russia today».

According to him, are more likely to be invented new technology that will allow in principle to abandon the use of the Northern sea route.
