The Minister of education of the Russian Federation Olga Vasilieva became an honorary member of the International astronomical Union (IAU) for the return of astronomy in the school curriculum, reported RIA Novosti the Chairman of the National Committee of Russian astronomers, Vice-President of the IAU, the scientific Director of the Institute of astronomy, Boris Shustov.

«In August was held the General Assembly of MAS, the main Congress of astronomers from all over the world. There were introduced new types of members, including honorary members WT. They are figures who are not professional astronomers, but have made a very significant contribution to supporting the advancement of astronomical knowledge and astronomical education in their countries,» — said Pasha.

«National Committee of Russian astronomers suggested and it was accepted in the General election, an honorary member of the astronomical Union from Russia to appoint Olga Yurievna Vasilieva for the return of astronomy in the school. A couple of days ago we received a letter that she was elected, among other leaders of the eight countries,» he added.

According to him, the Russian astronomers praised the decision to return the teaching of astronomy in schools, because it is not only important for improving prospects of development of Russian science, but also for the education of the modern worldview.

A letter from the MAS and certificate Vasilyeva honorary member of MAS in the coming time will be given to the Minister.
