The head of the Institute of national memory Volodymyr viatrovych said about the need to «quickly and decisively» to carry out de-communization in the Crimea and the Donbass.

«When we started de-communization in Ukraine, we were also told that this process should be stretched for many years, this can not be done quickly. I am a supporter of swift and decisive changes. I am convinced that the speed and determination ensure success of the reforms,» he told the publication «Glavred».

According to him, plans to rename objects in the Crimea has already been prepared and approved in Parliament, but they will come into force not earlier than the Peninsula will come under the control of Ukraine.

«It’s about seventy something names, of which a considerable part of which will return historical names, in particular, the historic Crimean Tatar names», — he said.

From may 2015 the law of Ukraine «About the condemnation of the Communist and Nazi regimes» prohibiting propaganda of Soviet symbols. It implies, in particular, the renaming of cities and streets named after Soviet statesmen. Institute of naramata published the list, which includes 520 historical figures whose activities are subject to the law of «decommunisation», and therefore, their names should disappear from geographical names. The document caused a great resonance in society, as it was not clearly spelled out the limits of its use.

Ukraine has repeatedly said about the «return» of Crimea. Thus, the ex-President Leonid Kravchuk proposed for this purpose to provide the Peninsula’s special status, in which «the subject of power will be the Crimean Tatars». Former Prosecutor General of Ukraine Svyatoslav Piskun claimed that Ukraine should make Russia a court to pay «trillions» as a «compensation» for the annexation of Crimea, and expressed confidence that in a few years the Crimeans themselves want to «return».
