Elections in Donbass as undermining the sovereignty of Ukraine, according to Merkel and macron

Elections in the breakaway Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics are undermining the territorial integrity and independence of Ukraine, said in a joint statement German Chancellor Angela Merkel and President of France Emmanuel Makron, which was distributed by the press service of the Cabinet of Germany.

Denis Pushilin is a leader in the elections of the self-proclaimed Donetsk people’s Republic with 57.3% of the vote. In the parliamentary elections in the DPR — Pushilin-led «Donetsk Republic», which has a majority in the National Council, and «Free Donbass». In the elections of the self-proclaimed Luhansk people’s Republic 70,42 % of the vote leader Leonid beekeeper. Led by the movement «World region» in the lead on elections in Parliament with 75.2% of the votes.

«The holding of these so-called elections undermines the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine», — reads the statement of the leaders of Germany and France, who spent Sunday meeting with President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko.

The statement emphasizes that «unlawful and illegal elections in certain districts of Donetsk and Lugansk, which took place… in spite of numerous appeals of the international community, contrary to the spirit of the Minsk agreement and the statement of the heads of state and governments of the four countries’ Normandy format, which was agreed by them simultaneously with the Minsk package of measures in February 2015.»

Merkel and macron said that the elections in these areas should be conducted in accordance with the Minsk agreement, the OSCE standards and Ukrainian legislation.
