The names of the pilot-cosmonaut Andrian Nikolayev, ophthalmologist Svyatoslav Fyodorov and educator of the Chuvash educator Ivan Yakovlev entered the short-list of potential candidates to name the airport of Cheboksary, according to the website of the project «Great names of Russia».

The names of prominent compatriots in the framework of the project «Great names of Russia» will assign the airports in 47 cities across the country, including the airport in the capital of Chuvash Republic. Monday started the final voting in the framework of the project.

«In the short-list of names of the candidates for the name of the airport in Cheboksary included: a native of the Chuvash Republic, pilot-cosmonaut, major General of aviation, twice hero of the Soviet Union, Andrian Nikolayev; a famous ophthalmologist, eye surgeon, doctor of medical Sciences, Professor Svyatoslav Fyodorov and Chuvash enlightener, writer, teacher, translator, which opened the first national Simbirsk Chuvash school, Ivan Yakovlev,» reads the project website.

The final vote of the project «Great names of Russia» will run until November 30. The winner will be announced on 5 December.
