A group of US senators has proposed sanctions against Riyadh over the Yemen and Casucci

Six U.S. senators from both parties announced Thursday that introduced a bill providing for sanctions against Saudi Arabia for the policy of the Kingdom.

«This bill is an important way to hold Saudi Arabia accountable for the various acts in Yemen and the death of Jamal Casucci,» said one of the initiators of the bill, Senator

Republican Lindsey Graham. Democrat Robert Menendez noted that the bill would introduce a «regular supervision, sanctions and ban on arms sales».

The bill entitled «an Act about the responsibility of Saudi Arabia and Yemen» provides for a ban on the sale of weapons to Saudi Arabia and the refueling of coalition aircraft, led by Riyadh, which strikes on Yemen.

Prospects for the bill are unclear. The administration of President Donald trump is likely to oppose. Trump has repeatedly said that the presence of a multibillion-dollar defense contracts with Riyadh should be taken into account in the imposition of sanctions against Saudi Arabia.

Casucci journalist who was a columnist for the American newspaper the Washington Post and 2017 were living in the United States, went missing in Turkey on 2 October after he entered the building of the Consulate General of Saudi Arabia in Istanbul. State media in Saudi Arabia on the night of October 20 issued a message of the Prosecutor General of the country, which, according to preliminary data, Casucci dead, his demise brought a quarrel with employees of the Consulate. The Istanbul Prosecutor’s office stated that the murder was premeditated Galucci, the body was dismembered and destroyed after he was strangled in the Consulate General.

According to the statement of the Prosecutor General of Saudi Arabia for the murder of Casucci detained 21 people. Five for direct participants of the murder, the Prosecutor demanded the death penalty, others will be punished according to the canons of Shariah.
