«The ball» to preserve the INF Treaty (intermediate-range) is on the side of Russia, told reporters Deputy Secretary of state for the Bureau arms control and international security Andrea Thompson.

«We continue to work. We have some opportunities. We fired a warning shot, if you want. The ball is on their side. They should return to the framework of the Treaty. We do not observe… the President said clearly: we will defend what is good for the American people. We will no longer tolerate Russian violations of the Treaty,» she said.

According to her, violations occur for more than five years, as the U.S. constantly remind European partners. Russia, according to the diplomat, does not respond to warnings. «We continue to show intelligence and information on our them expert meetings, meetings of key leaders and from the Russian Federation in response not even acknowledgement that they are breaking. They continue to produce (rocket) SSC-8 (it is also called the missile system 9M729 – ed.) they continue to place them, they continue to experience them,» continued Thompson.

Against the background of statements of the US President Donald trump on the upcoming withdrawal from the INF Treaty Washington is actively working with the allies, awareness-raising and gathering information, she added. In particular, last week the interdepartmental group of experts from the United States went to visit the partner countries and allies of the United States, and one of the Deputy Secretary of state just returned from a nine-day trip, which also discussed this issue, said Thompson.

Earlier, the President of the United States Donald trump announced that Washington will come from the INF Treaty. According to him, America will increase its nuclear capability as long as the others «comes to her senses», then Washington will be ready to stop this process and proceed to arms reduction. He explained that this message is addressed primarily to China and Russia. Press Secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov said that Moscow wants to get more detailed explanations from the United States, and added that the scrapping of the provisions of the INF Treaty would force Russia to take measures to ensure security. The Russian foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that any action in this field will meet.

In recent years Moscow and Washington have regularly accused each other of violating the INF Treaty. Russia has repeatedly stated that strictly complies with its obligations under the contract. Lavrov noted that Moscow has very serious questions to the US regarding the performance of the contract by the Americans themselves. In particular, in Moscow indicate that the United States placed on land at a military base in Romania, and in Poland — a facility capable of launching a shock cruise missiles of type «Tomahawk», which is prohibited by the Treaty. The Russian side also drew attention to the fact that the United States develop unmanned fighting vehicles, funding research on creation of cruise missiles, land-based.
