The head of the Ukrainian non-canonical structures Patriarch Filaret stated that they will not qualify for the post of the head of the Autocephalous Church in Ukraine, offered for this position the candidate Metropolitan Epiphanios; corresponding letter Filaret sent to the Patriarch of Constantinople Bartholomew, the text of the document published on the website of the TV channel «112. Ukraine».

The authorities in Kiev and non-canonical Church structure in Ukraine hope till the end of the year to receive the Tomos of autocephaly from Constantinople, but Tomos can get only the Primate of the «United» Church, it needs to select on the «unification Council» of the Orthodox churches in Ukraine, which could take place on November 22. This canonical UOC said that is not going to participate in this event.

«I decided not to nominate his candidacy at the Council for the election of the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church,» — said in a letter to Philaret.

In the document it is asking to retain the status of honorary Patriarch, the presidency of the Synod of the new Church, and the nomination of a single candidate of the Ukrainian non-canonical structure.

«For the position of head of the Church will recommend a candidate Patriarchal vicar, Metropolitan of Pereyaslav and Belotserkovsky Epiphanius, and ask Your blessings and support,» the letter reads.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Department for external Church relations (DECR) of the Moscow Patriarchate Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk said that the most probable candidates on a post of the head of the created in Ukraine, a new «Autocephalous churches» are the Exarch of Constantinople, Archbishop Daniel (Zelinsky) and Archbishop job (Hecha), «which has recently been increasingly active in the Ukrainian direction».

Speaking about chances of the heads of the non-canonical associations Filaret Denisenko and Macarius of Miletich to lead a new «Autocephalous Church», the representative of the Russian Orthodox Church has noticed that now considers and discusses different nominations, while «to Constantinople, of course, it would be important to structure headed by a canonical Bishop, and not any of the number of splitters» that would, in the opinion of Constantinople, «greater legitimacy to the new structure». That is why «a very small probability that the structure will be headed by someone from Philaret «of the episcopate,» said Bishop.

In particular, the new «Autocephalous Church» have suggested to head the Metropolitan Simeon of Vinnitsa is the only Bishop who took part in the Council of bishops of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and refused to sign the statement of the Cathedral, said the head of the DECR.

Earlier, the Ukrainian edition of the «Voice of UA» reported that the representative of Constantinople will arrive in Kiev for the preparation of the Church’s «unifying Council», scheduled for November 22. The outcome of the Assembly will be presented at the session of the Synod of the Patriarchate of Constantinople, which will take place 28-30 November. At its completion, stated in the material, Tomos signed by Patriarch Bartholomew, will present the Primate of the new Church structure.

Because of the decision of Constantinople to begin providing non-canonical autocephaly churches in Ukraine, which the Russian Orthodox Church is called the schism, the Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church on 15 October announced the severance of communication with the Constantinople Patriarchate on the canonical territory of the ROC. The Synod called canonically void, and saw politics in the abolition of Constantinople by the act of 1686 on the transfer of the Kyiv Metropolitanate to the jurisdiction of the Moscow Patriarchate.

Metropolitan Hilarion said that Constantinople lost its right to be called the coordinating centre of Orthodoxy. In the Russian Orthodox Church hope that Constantinople will change the decision to give the autocephaly of the Ukrainian Church, and before that he will be in schism.
