Commissioning of the gas pipeline «Turkish stream» will remove the risks of gas transportation in the region, said Minister of energy and natural resources of Turkey Fatih Donmez the closing ceremony of the marine pipeline installation, which was held in Istanbul on Monday.

The ceremony was attended by the presidents of Russia and Turkey Vladimir Putin and Tayyip Erdogan.

«Today we are opening a new page in energy relations between Russia and Turkey. Risks in gas supply would be fixed, this pipeline will play a greater role in fuel supply in our region. Turkey needs this energy. In addition, we will become one of the countries which will have a weighty word in the energy market of the world,» said Demes.

The project «Turkish stream» involves construction of a pipeline, consisting of two lines with capacity of 15.75 billion cubic meters each. The first line is designed to supply gas to Turkish consumers, the other for the gas supply countries in southern and South-Eastern Europe.

To start gas supplies via the «Turkish stream» is planned until 1 January 2020.
