The speaker of the state Duma Vyacheslav Volodin noted that the development of relations between Russia and African countries is growing the business component.

In the state Duma on Monday held a meeting of speaker of the state Duma Vyacheslav Volodin with the ambassadors of African countries in Russia.

«Speaking about the development of relations between our countries, it should be emphasized that the growing business component. We have increased the volume of trade with African countries, compared with the year 2016, it increased by more than a quarter, was about 26.1 per cent, it is 17.4 billion dollars. Mostly Russian exports (14.8 billion dollars), which increased by one third (29.8 per cent). Import of African goods into our country grew by 8.3% and amounted to 2.6 billion dollars», — said Volodin at the meeting on Monday.

He noted that a large part of the volume of trade provides trade cooperation with Algeria, Egypt, Kenya, côte d’ivoire, Morocco, Nigeria, Senegal, Sudan, Tunisia and South Africa.

«In the first half of 2018, the turnover amounted to approximately 10 and a half billion dollars, and import has almost reached the figures for the whole of last year – this suggests that African countries find themselves in the market in the Russian Federation. You need to talk about that it in many ways, including due to the action of trade preferences preferential customs-tariff regime in the bulk of Russian imports from Africa,» he said.

Volodin said that the accumulated Russian investments in Africa in the period from 2003 to 2017 totaled approximately $ 17 billion. However, Algeria, Angola, Egypt, Zimbabwe, Libya, Namibia, Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea, South Africa signed agreements on the promotion and protection of investments.

«The active participation of representatives of domestic business and entrepreneurs from Africa, you know, was held in the Moscow investment Community forum for the development of Southern Africa. And once again confirmed the interest of business circles in the implementation of joint projects. All of this leads to empowerment for economic development of the African continent. The implementation of mutually beneficial trade and economic projects are an important part of our cooperation. No less popular decision – and this I want to say today at the meeting — issues in health, education, and culture,» he said.

In particular, Volodin noted that Russia has trained 15 thousand African students, of which about 4 thousand – at the expense of the budget of the Russian Federation.
