The Russian Ministry of health recommends not to abuse the sausage, said the Minister of health of Russia Veronika Skvortsova.

The Minister noted that the Ministry of health had proposed to introduce excise duties on processed products red meat, particularly sausage.

«We need to be aware that for the majority of Russians sausage variety are affordable and delicious food, that is why the Ministry of health in its development strategy of healthy eating are not laid this measure (the imposition of excise duties), we were not offered», — said Skvortsova in the broadcast channel «Russia 24».

«But when experts familiar with the vozovskogo (world health organization — ed.) recommendations it was announced, we commented that, indeed, these products are harmful, so we just all wish not to abuse large quantities of these products,» she said.

The increase in the price of sausage?

On Monday, the newspaper «Izvestia» reported that meat products in Russia may grow by almost 30 percent.

According to the publication, proposes the introduction of a new system of fees and subsidies for food producers under the program «Strengthening public health». So, in a country supposedly you may receive an excise tax on sausages and bacon in the amount of about 160 rubles per kilogram. Assumes that proceeds will be directed to cheaper healthy food.

According to «Izvestia», the relevant initiative is contained in the opinion of the expert Council under the government of Russia on the program «Strengthening public health», which is part of the national project «Demography».

The Ministry of health, which is responsible for the program, as claimed by the newspaper, supported the emergence of the excise tax, but concrete steps are still being discussed.

In a press-service of the Ministry of labour later announced that the proposal of the expert Council under the government to introduce a tax on processed products red meat entered the office and sent to the health Ministry, which is responsible for Federal project «Strengthening public health».

The Ministry of agriculture against

The Ministry of agriculture said to RIA Novosti, they did not consider idea of introduction of excise duty on processed meat products is appropriate.

«The Ministry considers this initiative appropriate, reasonable and sufficiently detailed, including in terms of possible price risks for Russian consumers», — said the press service.

The Department also indicates that the requirements of food safety established by technical regulations of the Eurasian economic Union (EEU). It stressed that these documents comply with international standards, correct them only if there is scientific justification.

«The question is not relevant»

The press service of «United Russia» with reference to the coordinator of the party project «national control» Anna Kuvychko said that the question of the entry of excise duties on sausages is not relevant, you should start with the removal from the shelves of counterfeit goods, as well as easy access to retailers of the products of farmers and other local producers.

Initiative for additional excise duty on sausages and other processed red meat is unlikely to have a positive impact on the situation of diseases of the cardiovascular system, gastrointestinal tract, diabetes, expressed the opinion Kuvychko.

«The right balanced food in educational, social and medical institutions, high-quality products in retail, the creation of an accessible infrastructure for maintaining a healthy lifestyle with this integrated approach we will preserve the health of the nation without additional fiscal burden on business and, as a consequence, growth of cost of products,» she said.

«Strange initiative»

In a press-service of group «Cherkizovo» one of the largest Russian producers of meat and meat products, said RIA Novosti that the proposal to impose excise duty on the production of meat is strange and illogical initiative.

«Currently there is no reliable scientific evidence supporting the dangers of these products for health», — said the head of public relations of group «Cherkizovo» Anastasia Mikhaylova.

She noted that the category of «harm» is subjective and largely related to the volume of consumption of a product. «Hence the talk about the need for the introduction of a tax to regulate the consumption of sausages and other processed meat products do not have under itself no bases», — said the Agency interlocutor.

In addition, she continued, if the decision on the introduction of a new tax is adopted, there is a danger that this «allowance» will fall on the shoulders of the consumer, and would benefit from unscrupulous manufacturers.
