In the state Duma proposed to revise the assessment of the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan

The state Duma Committee on defence has suggested to not accept the relevant principles of historical justice moral and political condemnation of the decision to send Soviet troops into Afghanistan in December 1979, according to the draft resolution of the state Duma prepared for hearings of the parliamentary Committee.

Parliamentary hearings of the state Duma Committee took place on Wednesday and was dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the end of the war in Afghanistan.

«The state Duma considers it necessary to recognize not corresponding to the principles of historical justice moral and political condemnation of the decision to send Soviet troops into Afghanistan in December 1979, and expressed in the resolution of the Congress of people’s deputies of the USSR from December 24, 1989 № 982-1,» reads the draft resolution of the state Duma.

According to deputies, the events of the military conflict in Afghanistan should be considered from the point of view of political impartiality and historical truth.

«Deputies of the State Duma together with the entire Russian people bow their heads and honor the memory of those who gave their lives defending the interests of the Motherland», — stressed the parliamentarian.

In 1979, at the request of the government of the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan (DRA) on the provision of military assistance in a worsening of the Afghan crisis, the Soviet leadership, fearing the transfer of military operations on the territory of the Central Asian republics, took the decision on the introduction of troops. Soviet troops in Afghanistan guarded and defended national economic projects, airfields, vital to the country’s roads, carried out the wiring convoys with goods on the territory controlled by the armed opposition. Total irrecoverable Soviet losses in Afghanistan amounted to almost 14.5 thousand the person became disabled 6,6 thousand military.

Many foreign politicians and experts believed that the main obstacle to ending the war in Afghanistan was the Soviet military presence in the country. However, after the withdrawal of Soviet troops, the conflict in this country is not extinguished.
