The name of the founder and the leader of the group «Civil defense» Yegor Letov from the list of finalists of the contest «Great names of Russia» crossed out deliberately cheating was not — this version of the name Omsk airport is just not popular, said the head of the Public chamber (OP) of the Russian Federation Valery Fadeyev in a meeting of the expert Council of the contest.

Russian project of the «Great names of Russia» is intended to select names that complement the official names of more than 40 Russian and international airports of Federal significance with total passenger traffic of more than 170 million people.

Residents of Omsk proposed to assign the local airport the name of his countryman, the founder and leader of the group «Civil defense» Yegor Letov, who died in 2008. Social activists in the region launched an active campaign in his support. However, on the website of the government of Omsk region on November 12 reported that, according to the results of sociological researches VTSIOM, to the final three names for Omsk airport name of Egor Letov has not got.

«Activists in Omsk gave the alternative vote, and of course, it was activists, fans of Egor Letov, he was leading in the voting. Someone began to accuse us that we supposedly removed the name of Egor Letov from the lists. But we presented all the data, Valery Fedorov (VCIOM Director General – ed.) reported in detail about how the survey was conducted, in which Letov scored 6% of votes. And there’s nothing you can do. No one cheated and did not excluded him from the lists,» — said Fadeev, quoted by the press service of the OP of the Russian Federation.

He also noted that the opposite situation has developed with a vote on the airport of Kaliningrad: «Activists have published an open letter against participation in the competition of a name of Immanuel Kant».

«The great philosopher Kant included in the shortlist, and some activists believe that the German philosopher out of place in the list of great Russian names. I understand these activists, but, first, Kant four years were the subjects of the Russian crown, and, secondly, was elected a member of the Petersburg Academy of Sciences», — said Fadeev, adding that he sees no arguments on which «it could be excluded».

Secretary OP the Russian Federation considers that the whole long list of «Great names of Russia» could be included in the school curriculum. Fadeev also expressed the hope that where the state of the airports is poor, the appropriation of a great name «will encourage local authorities to build a decent terminal».

«Civil defense» was established on 8 November 1984 in Omsk Egor Letov and Konstantin Rowanberry and became one of the most influential Soviet and Russian punk-rock bands. Collapsed in 2008 after the death of Letov.
