Who is in jail the head of the portal RIA Novosti Ukraine Kirill Vyshinsky said that he had «good relations» with inmates.

A Ukrainian court on 1 November extended the arrest of the head of RIA news Ukraine until December 28.

«My neighbors — people are different. It is the first hit in prison. Relationship even, everyone understands why I got here — I’m the one with the «political» article,» said Vyshinsky in an interview with Ukraine.ru.

«To me, in the same chamber were the Crimean border guards who exchanged this spring, in March. Before that, they sat for 11 months. Also in the same prison, sat the girl from the Crimea, which put participation in the Commission on the organization of a referendum in 2014 year», — he added.

According to the journalist, the detention conditions normal «by the standards of the Kherson prison is even better shared.»

Vyshinsky said that he reads a lot in jail. «Read fiction (classics — Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, contemporary Fazil Iskander, Strugatsky), poems (Yevtushenko, Pasternak). Read the history books, it’s very interesting in terms of modern Ukraine — a lot of interesting and unexpected Parallels, allusions, coincidences. Decided to improve my English friends gave textbooks, books on English,» — said the journalist.

«But books still missing — «War and peace» I flew in three weeks… So what I’m asking friends, and now colleagues give addition products, and even books. Now asked my wife to look for something fresh about the media and modern information technology is a very good book was published under the auspices of the Stockholm business school. If something colleagues can advise or give — ‘ll be terribly grateful,» he added.

Vyshinsky was taken into custody in Kiev may 15, 2018. The journalist announced that he was suspected of supporting the breakaway republics of Donbass and treason. The maximum punishment under this article provides till 15 years of imprisonment.

Kherson city court on may 17 sent Wyszynski into custody. The defence appealed the arrest, but the court dismissed the appeal. During the meeting, Vyshinsky asked for help to the Russian leader Vladimir Putin. He also said that they will refuse Ukrainian citizenship

Putin called the situation unprecedented, saying that Wyszynski was arrested «for his direct professional activities, for exercising his journalistic functions». Moscow has sent to Kiev a note of protest with the requirement to stop violence against members of the press.

The OSCE representative on freedom of the media, Harlem Desir had previously expressed serious concern about the actions of Kiev in relation to RIA Novosti Ukraine. After the next prolongation of term of detention of Vyshinsky custody Dezir expressed disappointment with Ukraine’s position and called for the release of the journalist. The Secretary General of the OSCE Thomas Greminger, commenting on the situation with Wyszynski, stressed that all the countries of the organization committed to promote an environment in which journalists can fulfill their obligations in another member state, and therefore must abide by international standards and not to interfere in the work of the media.
