Kant has lost the lead in voting on the name of the airport of Kaliningrad

The number of voters for the assignment Kaliningrad airport named after Empress Elizabeth Petrovna almost a thousand more than the philosopher, the founder of German classical philosophy of Immanuel Kant.

The names of prominent compatriots will assign the airports of more than 40 cities in the country. In the first phase, the results of public discussions, the Public chamber in each region had created a primary list of names of applicants for the names of the airports. After that, the residents of the participating cities offered their own versions of and held a public opinion poll, the results of which was formed the short list.

«For Elizabeth voted 33% or 22670 people, for the Immanuel Kant – 32%, 21691 people,» — said on the website of the project «Great names of Russia».

The name of the philosopher was solidly in the lead in voting. In the short list of contenders for the name of the airport of Kaliningrad also has twice hero of the Soviet Union Aleksandr Vasilevsky and General of the army, twice Hero of Soviet Union Ivan Chernyakhovsky.

Daughter of Peter the great and his second wife Catherine, the First Elizabeth reigned 1741-1762 years. In the period of her reign Russia entered into an Alliance with France and Austria, she went to Koenigsberg (now Kaliningrad), the population of East Prussia, on the territory of which the modern Kaliningrad oblast, swore allegiance to the Russian Empress.

Philosopher and scientist Immanuel Kant was born in 1724 in königsberg, where he lived his entire life. During the Seven years ‘ war from 1758 to 1762, Koenigsberg was under the jurisdiction of the Russian government, becoming a centre of learning for the General-governorship of Eastern Prussia. Residents (including Kant) swore allegiance to the Empress Elizabeth. After the conclusion of the St. Petersburg peace Treaty of 1762, the Russian Emperor Peter III returned to Prussia Konigsberg.

The final vote nationwide competition began on 12 November and will end on November 30. Each participant can choose only one name and only one airport for a vote. And from any city in Russia you can vote for any airport. The voting results will be announced on 5 December.
