The leaders of parliamentary factions are holding consultations in the Verkhovna Rada on the issue of the introduction of martial law, which the approval process of the relevant decree of the President of Petro Poroshenko is delayed, the correspondent of RIA Novosti.

An extraordinary session of Parliament to approve presidential decree on the introduction of martial law was supposed to start at 17.00 GMT, but immediately after the start of the leader of Radical party Oleg Lyashko demanded a personal meeting with the President to discuss the motivation of introducing such a solution.

The national security Council and defense of Ukraine adopted a decision to introduce martial law throughout the country on the background of the incident with violation of Russian border by Ukrainian ships.

Three ships of the Ukrainian Navy on Sunday broke the Russian border, did not respond to the legitimate demands of the accompanying Russian military ships and boats to stop immediately. Ukrainian ships maneuvered in a dangerous manner and were detained. Press Secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov has called the incident «a very dangerous provocation, which requires serious proceedings». After the incident a criminal case on illegal crossing of the state border.

Poroshenko on Monday evening announced that he had proposed the Parliament to approve the introduction of martial law for a period of 30 days, not 60 days, not to disrupt the elections. The decision still must approve the Verkhovna Rada.
