Russia has strengthened sanitary-and-epidemiologic control on the border with Ukraine because of the unacceptably high level of morbidity in this country of measles, tuberculosis, whooping cough, and threats of epidemics of polio and influenza, said in an interview with RIA Novosti the head of Rospotrebnadzor Anna Popova.

She also said that in Ukraine there is a risk of the spread of artificially introduced infections.

«This is a very bitter feeling — to talk about the government, which worked on one with us to the principles of antiepidemic protection of the country, and today the question of how the situation will develop with the flu there, no definitely, I sure isn’t the answer. To date, the surveillance system destroyed, and as a result, there do not teach people, there is also a problem for the country, for the population of this country, for children morbidity,» — said Popov.

«Therefore, at such a low level epidemiological security of any natural pathogen, and there are risks and the introduction of artificial populations (pathogens, ed.), can give the most unusual reaction, as we now see with measles. Now, more than 70% of the total incidence in Europe is on the territory of Ukraine», — said Popov.

She noted that in Europe today, more than 55 thousand cases of measles, of which more than 35 thousand people in Ukraine.

«What was going to happen to this situation in a state that 10 years ago perfectly normal instilled in their citizens from measles and had high levels of immunization are the same as in the former Soviet space? So what is happening there, in particular in laboratories, which is already 11, which are based on the money their overseas «partner», what they do, what they do, how they affect the situation, today we have no answer. And so we had no issues with this, we are strengthening sanitary and quarantine control at the border, we are working to increase post-vaccination immunity in the border areas, and our duty today is very hard to monitor the level of tension of postvaccinal immunity in the Russian Federation, in order to prevent any complications in our country», — said Popov.

She said that Ukraine has 7 cases of diphtheria, and at the end of June published evidence that this area is on the second place in Europe on the incidence of tuberculosis.

«Also, according to available data, in Ukraine unacceptably low 47 percent vaccination coverage against polio, which poses a threat of epidemic. Is growing in this country, the incidence of pertussis, and the fatality rate of children under one year from whooping cough is about 70%,» — said the Agency interlocutor.
