The government of Nicaragua called about the US charges against Vice President Maria Rosario Murillo de Ortega and adviser to the President for national security Nestor Moncada Lau.

«Resolutely reject the intervention and the interventionist policies of the North American imperialist powers against Nicaragua… We declare invalid, irrelevant, disrespectful, false and illegal all charges,» said the government.

On Tuesday, the US imposed sanctions against the first lady and part-time Vice President of Nicaragua, Rosario Maria Murillo de Ortega. In addition, under the sanctions were an Advisor to President Daniel Ortega on national security Nestor Moncada Lau. Earlier, the representative of the US administration told reporters that Washington is imposing sanctions against these people for corruption and human rights violations.

At the recent Ibero-American summit held in Guatemala, Minister of foreign Affairs of Spain Josep Borrell called for international sanctions against Nicaragua, and in August a group of U.S. congressmen asked President Donald trump to impose sanctions against officials of Nicaragua for the violation of human rights during mass protests in the country, which began in April of this year.

Earlier the inter-American Commission on human rights at the Organization of American States (OAS) reported that the death toll during the protests in Nicaragua from 18 April to 30 July reached 317 people, 21 of them killed police officers. The number of deaths of children and adolescents during the crisis amounted to 23 people. The authorities themselves call another number — 198 of the victims.
