Deputies of the Sakhalin regional Duma unanimously adopted an appeal to the foreign Ministry so that the issue of transfer of Japan of part of the Kuril Islands were excluded from the negotiation process between the two countries, the correspondent from a hall of plenary sessions of the regional Parliament.

Deputies of the Sakhalin regional Duma on Thursday signed an appeal to the Minister of foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov. The reason for this is called spreading rumors about the possible return of Shikotan island and the lesser Kuril ridge of Japan.

On the current situation on this issue, the deputies informed the representative of the Russian foreign Ministry in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk Vladimir Nosov. According to the diplomat, he sent a request to the Duma in the Ministry and received clarification from the third Department of Asia of Ministry of foreign Affairs, who oversees Russian-Japanese relations.

«We are not talking about any specific agreements in terms of solving the problem of a peace Treaty. The negotiation process continues. The main condition is the recognition by Japan of the outcome of the Second world war in full, including Russian sovereignty over the southern Kuril Islands», — he announced the position of the Russian foreign Ministry.

The initiator of the appeal, the Deputy Alexander Bolotnikov, this answer is not quite arranged.

«The Declaration of 1956 on which to build negotiation process, recorded the transfer of Japan of island Shikotan and the Minor Kuril chain. All of our voters — and we’re also concerned this circumstance. I propose to support the appeal, which spelled out the rule that the Sakhalin regional Duma insists on the preservation of the territorial integrity and existing borders of the Russian Federation and calls to take all possible measures to exclude from the negotiations the question of the transfer of Japan of a part of the Kuril Islands», — said the MP.

MPs of all factions of the Duma supported the appeal.

Moscow and Tokyo many decades are in talks with the aim of developing a peace Treaty at the end of the Second world war. The main obstacle to this remains the issue of belonging of the South Kuril Islands after the war, the entire archipelago was incorporated into the Soviet Union, but Tokyo disputes ownership of the Iturup, Kunashir, Shikotan and group of uninhabited islets which in Japan is called Habomai. At the same time, the Russian foreign Ministry has repeatedly stated that Russian sovereignty over these territories having international legal formalization, can not be questioned.
