Kalyazin bell tower, which is popularly called flooded, be restored, said the Governor of the Tver region Igor Rudenya.

The belfry of St. Nicholas Cathedral is a monument of history and architecture on an artificial island in the Uglich reservoir, near the town of Kalyazin. It was built in 1800. The bell tower reaches 74.5 meters. In the XX century with the creation of the Uglich reservoir, the old part of Kalyazin was flooded, the Cathedral was dismantled and the bell tower left as a beacon. In the late 1980-ies the Foundation of the tower was strengthened and created an artificial island with a Marina for boats. In 2007, the belfry was a divine Liturgy. Two years ago bell installed five new bells.

«We are ready to restore the bell tower at the expense of regional means. The means of the Federal budget is developed proyektno-budget documentation. The bell tower is an important specific object of the Tver region, which attracts a lot of tourists,» said Rudina at the meeting with the veteran asset Kalyazin.

It is expected that the list will be included including the work on strengthening the base of the monument, restoration of the outer walls.
