The Patriarchate of Constantinople was not able to make a certain decision about «unifying Council» in Ukraine because of the strong position of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and their own unwillingness to assume the questionable role of unifier of the dissenters, said the Deputy head of the Synodal Department for external Church relations Archpriest Nikolai Balashov.

Following the meeting of the Synod of the PCC did not accept the decision on carrying out in December, «unification Council» to provide Ukraine autocephaly, when it adopted the draft Charter of the Church. As reported RIA Novosti, the President of the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy (IAO), the Deputy of the state Duma Sergey Gavrilov at the meeting in Istanbul, Patriarch Bartholomew expressed the opinion that the «unification Council» will be held in December.

«Ukrainian authorities in Istanbul once said that Tomos is getting closer. And that’s when… I think in the Phanar would like to watch the development of events that do not yet have to take decisive action. After all it is clear now that the «unification Council» if anyone will join, it is only the dissenters two or more varieties. The canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church is not willing to participate in this political action, instigated in the interests of the campaign one person», — told RIA Novosti Balashov.

According to him, representatives of non-canonical structures «have yet to explore top-down Charter that they themselves are not entrusted to develop, and to understand what they actually offer under the guise of independence».

«But if they accept this humiliation, it is hardly to accept Fanar dubious role of unifier rejected in the absence of this process the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, the episcopate which, in difficult circumstances shows strength and integrity,» — said the Agency interlocutor.

Balashov added that he does not recall in the history of such cases, «when was given autocephaly would be non-existent Church, which for this purpose would be anew, «from scratch» collected under the Charter, not her own made up».

Because of the decision of Constantinople to begin providing non-canonical autocephaly churches in Ukraine, which the Russian Orthodox Church is called the schism, the Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church on 15 October announced the severance of communication with the Patriarchate of Constantinople on the canonical territory of the ROC, including Ukraine and Belarus.

The Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church has called canonically void, and saw politics in the abolition of Constantinople by the act of 1686 on the transfer of the Kyiv Metropolitanate to the jurisdiction of the Moscow Patriarchate. Metropolitan Hilarion said that Constantinople lost its right to be called the coordinating centre of Orthodoxy. In the ROC I hope that Constantinople will change the decision to give the autocephaly of the Ukrainian Church, and before that he will be in schism.
