On Friday, the activists of the protest movement of the «yellow jackets» dissatisfied with rising fuel prices, staged an unsanctioned rally in the center of the capital of Belgium. Hundreds of activists tried to block traffic on one of the Central intersections of the city. In response, the police used water cannons to disperse the crowd.

According to the channel, the total number of detained during the protests amounted to 82 people. Among them one minor, suspected of involvement in the burning of police cars.

The first large-scale protests by «yellow jackets» against raising taxes and gasoline prices began in France on 17 November and almost immediately spread to the territory of Belgium. Unlike large-scale events in France, where the movement against rising prices supported by more than 100 thousand people, the first campaign in Belgium was small, but after the number of participants began to grow.

The share of excise duties and VAT in the cost of diesel in Belgium is 55.5%, for this indicator, the Kingdom occupies the fourth place among the countries-EU members.
