The European Union will in the coming years to import a growing share of gas consumed, according to the materials of the European Commission.

«Europe currently imports about 70% of the gas that it needs, and this share is expected to increase in the coming years,» appears in the documents.

The Commission drew attention to the «rapidly declining domestic gas production» in the EU.

According to her, the LNG is an important part of the EU strategy of diversification of sources and routes of energy. As the second largest single gas market in the world after the United States, the European Union represents an attractive option for U.S. LNG supplies, said the EC.

Further cooperation with the United States will, in particular, aimed at developing collaborative efforts to fill an important missing infrastructure in Europe to improve access to LNG, stated in the materials.
