In the European Parliament prepared a draft resolution on relations with Russia. The document contains a demand to «stop» the implementation of the «Nord stream — 2».

The project was submitted to the Committee on foreign Affairs, its author was made by the MEP from Latvia Sandra Kalniete.

The author of the initiative proposes the EP to record in the resolution «On the state of relations between Russia and the EU» the position that «Russia and the EU will remain key economic partners for the foreseeable future, but the «Nord stream — 2″ increases the dependence of the Union on Russian gas supplies, threatening the domestic market and does not meet the energy policy of the European Union, and so must be stopped.»

The European Parliament is also requested to approve the document the wording to support the «prompt completion of an integrated European energy Union, which in the future will include the Eastern partners.»

The project «Northern stream — 2» involves the construction of two pipelines with a total capacity of 55 billion cubic meters of gas off the coast of Russia through the Baltic sea to Germany. The new pipeline is planned to be build next to the existing «Northern stream». Construction completion is scheduled for late 2019.

Earlier, the leader of the largest in the European Parliament of the European people’s party Manfred Weber, a candidate for the post of the new head of the European Commission, urged EU countries after the incident in the Kerch Strait to reconsider investment in the construction of the pipeline «Nord stream — 2».

German Chancellor Angela Merkel for its part has repeatedly said that Berlin considers the project «Northern stream-2» commercial, however, it linked its implementation with the preservation of Russian gas transit through Ukraine. The Russian side also repeatedly stated that this project is purely commercial and competitive.

On Sunday, three ships of naval forces of Ukraine «Berdyansk», «Nikopol» and «Yana Kapu» — violated the state border of Russia, included in the temporarily closed waters of the territorial sea of Russia and moved from the Black sea to Kerch Strait. They maneuvered in a dangerous manner, did not obey the lawful demands of the Russian authorities and was arrested.
