Swearing in public places should be fined, said the head of the Department for external Church relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, Metropolitan Hilarion.

«I even believe that for uttering obscene words in public places should be fined. I guess it would sober some of the same vocabulary,» said Metropolitan Hilarion, the TV channel «Russia 24».

He stated that he fully agrees with the opinion of the Minister of culture of Russia Vladimir Medinsky, who said that profanity, began to penetrate into works of art and culture, can and should be excluded from the public sphere.

To do this, the Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church called on all interested citizens to exclude a mate from their own vocabulary. And then, he said, this example will help and other people «behave more decently».

«People are so used to swearing that it seems like it is impossible to convey emotions, feelings or some other threats, but actually there are many people who are perfectly happy without abusive language. I, for example, your 52-year-old life, never uttered obscene words, despite the fact that I served two years in the army, where such vocabulary was actually normative – it ate everything. I did not use never, and although at first to me about this laughed at the end of my service when I was too shy to talk mate,» concluded the Metropolitan.
