The state Department congratulates Salome Zurabishvili with the victory in the presidential election in Georgia, but shares the concern of the OSCE because of the number of violations in the voting process, said in a statement the U.S. state Department spokesman Heather Nauert.

«The United States congratulates Salome Zurabishvili on his election as President of Georgia,» — said in a statement released by the press service of the Ministry.

«We welcome the assessment Mission, the OSCE / ODIHR election observation that the presidential race in Georgia was competitive and candidates were free to campaign. We also share the concerns of the mission and other international and national observers in cases of abuse of state resources in terms of illegal agitation and other issues. These actions are not consistent with Georgia’s commitment to holding fair and transparent elections, and we urge the Georgian authorities to eliminate the shortcomings identified by the OSCE / ODIHR and other observers,» continues Nauert.

The CEC of Georgia on Thursday released the second round of presidential elections after the counting of 100% of bulletins: independent candidate Salome Zurabishvili, which supports the ruling party «Georgian dream», is gaining 59,52% of the vote, Grigol Vashadze — 40,48%.
