The grants, which the European Parliament is going to allocate NGOs, human rights defenders and bloggers in Russia, it is unlikely aimed at strengthening the effectiveness of the struggle for the rights of journalists, media and freedom of speech, especially as a number of heads of the EU countries don’t even hide the fact that against Russia is an information war, told RIA Novosti Secretary of the Union of journalists of Russia Timur Shafir.

Earlier it became known that the European Parliament has developed a draft resolution on the relations between the EU and Russia, which contains the proposal of the European Commission include increasing the financial assistance to NGOs, human rights defenders and bloggers in Russia. The draft resolution brought before the foreign Affairs Committee of the EP by MEP from Latvia Sandra Kalniete. The paper proposes to adopt the statement about «the importance of further political and financial support for civil society activists, human rights activists, bloggers, independent media, investigative journalists» as well as «public officials» and NGOs.

«Leave beyond hope that the European analysis of grants is intended solely for a good cause – strengthening the effectiveness in the fight for the rights of journalists, media and freedom of expression, otherwise the front of struggle for the good against the bad become a media field of Ukraine, where the situation is deteriorating with all of the above, and bounds,» said Shafir.

According to him, it is worth considering that a number of heads of countries – members of EU, members of the European Parliament, not excluding the Baltic, all more likely to report that against Russia is an information war.

«In practical terms remains to sympathize with EU taxpayers are seeing how the European Parliament plans to spend the funds of the Union, realizing the very low efficiency of such measures, with highly inflated budgets», — said the Agency interlocutor.
