Ekaterinburg became the first city of Russia, acceded to the Paris Declaration on combating HIV and AIDS, said on Monday the city of Yekaterinburg.

The head of Rospotrebnadzor Anna Popova said earlier that Russia, Kemerovo, Novosibirsk, Irkutsk and Ekaterinburg are in the lead in Russia on number of HIV and AIDS.

«The head of Ekaterinburg Alexander Vysokinskiy and regional Director of the Association of UN organizations in the fight against AIDS in Eastern Europe and Central Asia Vinay Saldana Patrick signed the Paris Declaration. The goal is to stop the spread of HIV in large cities. Thus, Ekaterinburg became the first city in Russia, joined the international movement», — stated in the message.

Priorities of work in cities that have acceded to the Paris Declaration, are to increase the coverage of testing to identify HIV status, provision of antiretroviral therapy to HIV-positive citizens and reduce them viral load to «zero» indicator that will allow them to live a full life and minimizes the risk of HIV transmission.

Patrick Vinay Saldanha congratulated Ekaterinburg with the accession to international traffic. «Cities that have acceded to the Paris Declaration, stop the spread of HIV once and for all. After signing the document, Alexander Vysokinskiy explained that in recent years, in Yekaterinburg, has a lot of work on primary prevention, in the city there has been a distinct trend towards the reduction of morbidity.

Two years ago, in November 2016, the Department of health of the administration of Yekaterinburg announced that the city had registered 26,693 thousand cases of HIV infection. It was 1826 people per 100 thousand inhabitants, that is, 1.8% of the population of the metropolis.
