State Duma Deputy Vitaly Milonov proposed to the Minister of natural resources and ecology Dmitry Kobylkin and the main Santa Claus Russia to work together to develop a bill for the installation of high protective duties and charges on the sale of felled trees.

«I suggest You jointly prepare a bill for the establishment of high protective duties and charges on the sale of felled trees, while encouraging the sale of live spruce trees (later planted in the open ground),» — says Milonow in the letters to the Minister and Santa Claus, text handling is at the disposal of RIA Novosti.

The MP believes that these measures will help to foster in the population a responsible attitude to nature and to help restore forests and green spaces within cities.

«Very soon our country will start preparing for the celebration of New Year and Christmas. In all the cities and villages will start the holiday cooking, fairs and booths. Such a stir, without a doubt, evidence that people love to celebrate the New Year. However, the city also will begin the work of numerous Christmas bazaars, where are sold all sorts of coniferous trees.

The MP stressed in his letters that the number of «firs, pines, firs and other trees» from being cut in anticipation of the holidays, it’s hard to even count, while a large number of trees and remains not sold out and just «discarded in landfills».

«Don’t need to be an expert in environmental issues, to understand that such mass cutting down of young trees, no matter — it gets to someone in the house or not, causing great harm to mother nature. Felled tree, unfortunately, is only good for firewood and sawdust. And this mass deforestation is known to occur from year to year. Given the active urbanization of the country, urban population growth and proceeding from the priority for the conservation of the environment, now is the time to take measures to reduce unnecessary felling of trees,» — said the politician.
