Requirements for the quality of beer in Russia can change, write «Vedomosti», citing sources familiar with the discussion document, which is the Council of the Eurasian economic Commission.

So, the new regulations will allow us to replace malt by grain and sugar-containing products at 50 percent instead of the currently allowable 20 percent.

Representatives of Baltika, Heineken and AB InBev, Efes announced that the big brewers have supported the proposal to reduce the minimum rate of malt in the beer. According to them, this measure will allow producers to be more «flexible and creative» in the recipe. They also said that the content of the malted material in beer at a level not less than 80 percent is an excessive restriction that «in no other European country with well-developed beer culture».
