Servicemen of the motorized infantry formations and military units of the 58th army of the southern military district, stationed in North Ossetia, Kabardino-Balkaria and Ingushetia, have discovered the remains of soldiers killed during the great Patriotic war in the battle for the Caucasus (July 25, 1942 – 9 Oct 1943), told reporters head of the press service of the southern military district, Vadim Astafiev.

«The soldiers of the combined search teams in the course of heroic and Patriotic action «Watch of memory» carried out searches in the Kirov district of North Ossetia, in Mayskiy district of Kabardino-Balkaria and near the village of Staryy Malgobek in Ingushetia,» he said.

Just search involved about 5 thousand troops, which shifts conducted excavations on the territory of the republics of the North Caucasus. Every week in search of was attended by about 600 people.

During the campaign soldiers of the compounds of the southern military district have discovered the remains of 107 red army soldiers, about 2 thousand cartridges of various calibre, machine-gun belts 214, 126 firearms and ammunition 86, 142 household item, and decayed clothing, boots, shoes, helmets, buttons and other elements of uniforms and equipment.

The greatest number of remains of dead soldiers found the soldiers of a motorized infantry connection of the southern military district in North Ossetia. They had discovered the remains of 41 of the red army who died in the line of defense «Elatomsky gate.»

One soldier, who was killed on 9 October 1942 during the Malgobek defensive operation, failed to identify the personal token. The remains were identified and handed over to relatives in Chuvashia. Relatives of a fallen soldier took part in the solemn meeting in Ingushetia.
