Petersburg will celebrate the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Leningrad from the blockade of the parade

Commemorative events dedicated to 75-th anniversary of the complete liberation of Leningrad from the Nazi blockade in the great Patriotic war, will pass in Northern capital on 27 January 2019, among them are the parade and fireworks, the press service of the Governor of the city.

Approved plan of the celebration includes more than 120 events. It is planned that on January 26 on the city memorials and places of military graves is traditionally held solemn mourning ceremony of laying wreaths and flowers.

It is noted that in support of the parade on January 27 the Chairman of the Council of the St. Petersburg public organization of veterans (pensioners, invalids) of war, labour, Armed forces and law enforcement agencies Vasily Volobuyev and the Chairman of public organisation «Inhabitants of blockade Leningrad» Elena Tikhomirova.

«It’s a celebration of courage, of heroism, fortitude, and so we should celebrate. We are proud that we are the heirs of the winners and to transfer this right to be proud of our victory and grandchildren,» said Volobuev, whose words are reported.

Acting Governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Beglov was asked to study the possibility to involve in the parade of historical flags of the military divisions participated in the defense of Leningrad, and equipment from Museum collections «Inreserve».

Special committees tasked to prepare gifts for all veterans and siege survivors that come to the celebrations from other regions and countries. Special attention will be paid to creation of comfortable conditions for visiting the parade of veterans is planned to organize Parking stands, put a warm tent to stay.

According to Beglov, the celebration of the Leningrad Victory Day should be a bright event that would cover as many people as possible. In accordance with the signed Beglov law by early next year the veterans, former underage prisoners of concentration camps, defenders and residents of besieged Leningrad, will receive a payment in the amount of 7 thousand rubles. For 3 thousand rubles will be paid to the children of the blockade, born before 3 September 1945. For this purpose from the budget will be allocated over 1.7 billion rubles. In addition, the city has prepared commemorative tokens «In honor of the 75th anniversary of the complete liberation of Leningrad from the Nazi blockade».

The siege of Leningrad started on 8 September 1941 and lasted nearly 900 days. The only way — «Road of life», which was delivered to the city food was laid on the ice of lake Ladoga. The blockade was broken January 18, 1943, however, until its complete withdrawal ─ 27 January 1944 ─ Leningrad had to wait another whole year. During the years of blockade were killed, according to various data, from 400 thousand to 1.5 million people. So, at the Nuremberg trials featured the number 632 thousand people. Only 3% of them died from the bombing and shelling, the rest died of hunger.
