The European Commission on Tuesday urged member countries of the European Union to sign the immigration Pact of the United Nations.

A global agreement on the safe, orderly and regular migration must be formally approved at the international conference on 10 December in Marrakech (Morocco). «I call on all member countries of the EU to sign the agreement», — said the European Commissioner for migration, home Affairs and citizenship Dimitris Avramopoulos.

According to him, the migration Pact reflects the interests of all EU member States and «will help to reduce irregular (economic – ed.), migration» to Europe.

The presidency of the EU, Austria has withdrawn from the agreement at the end of October 2018. Similar statements were later made by a number of countries, particularly the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Hungary and Poland as well as Israel, Switzerland and Australia. The United States withdrew from the negotiations on the agreement in 2017, the President, Donald trump declared that it is absolutely incompatible with the migration policy of the country.

The document addresses such issues as minimization of negative factors of migration processes, protection and integration of migrants and the increased availability of regular ways of migration. It is not legally binding.
